While carvings were in lower relief and more stylized during the reign of Louis XIV (1643-1715) than previously, the ostentation typical of the court of “Le Roi de Soleil” can be seen in frame styles of the period. Characteristic is the use of a variety of textures as decorative elements, with heavy, brocade-like designs.
